Historic Fort Harrison Hosts Brunch to Raise Funds for Clearwater’s East Gateway Community Garden

On August 21st, Clearwater resident, Howard Warshauer, will hold the second annual Clearwater Community Garden Brunch in the Church of Scientology’s historic Fort Harrison. Residents and neighbors from all over Clearwater will come together in the Crystal Ballroom to raise funds for the Community Garden.

The first annual brunch was likewise held in the historic Fort Harrison in August 2015 and completed the fundraising necessary to get the garden started. Since then, the Clearwater Community Garden has expanded with residents participating in tending the 36 plots.

“Our Community Garden is a place where the community comes together for the purpose of growing food, interacting with each other, and personal growth,” said Mr. Warshauer.

At this second annual brunch, Mr. Warshauer will show how much the garden has grown over the last year, highlighting events that have brought the community together. This included the ribbon cutting of the Moss Shelter. Not only does the shelter provide shade, but the slanted roof helps collect rain water to nourish the garden.

Mr. Warshauer will also discuss plans to clean and beautify Clearwater’s East Gateway Neighborhood. Further explaining the subject will be Pat Harney, spokesperson for the Church of Scientology. The Church is currently working with residents of East Gateway to improve that neighborhood.

The new Clearwater Redevelopment Agency Director, Seth Taylor, will inform the guests of what he does and how he plans to help the East Gateway community.

Included in the event will be a raffle for gift cards and vouchers to some of Downtown Clearwater’s shops and restaurants. All proceeds will benefit the Clearwater Community Garden.
